What We Collect, Why, And How We Protect It
This policy explains how Practice Succession Canada (“PSC”, “we”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal information through practicesuccessioncanada.ca and in the course of marketing accounting practices for sale. We follow the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the substantially similar provincial laws of Alberta, British Columbia and Québec where they apply.
Buyers: name, email, phone, professional designation, firm, province and type of practice sought, revenue range, timing, financing capacity, and our communications with you.
Sellers: name, email, phone, practice name and location, revenue and fee mix, staff numbers, lease details, financial statements and other information needed to value and market the practice.
Visitors: server logs (IP address, browser, pages viewed), form submissions, and cookies used for site performance and, if enabled, analytics. We do not use advertising cookies.
To respond to your enquiry, to value and market a practice, to match registered buyers with listings and send alerts, to screen buyers and release profiles after a signed confidentiality agreement, to administer engagements and fees, to keep records required by law, and to improve the site.
We collect information with your consent, which you give by submitting a form, registering or engaging us. Alert emails and other commercial messages are sent with your express consent under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation, and every message carries an unsubscribe link. You may withdraw consent at any time by emailing us; we will stop within 10 business days, subject to information we must keep to meet legal obligations or to complete a transaction already under way.
Sellers’ identities and practice details are shared with a buyer only after that buyer signs our confidentiality agreement for the listing. A buyer’s identity and criteria are shared with a seller only when the buyer asks to proceed on that seller’s practice.
We use service providers to run the site and send email, currently a Canadian web host, Brevo (email delivery) and Microsoft 365 (mailboxes), which may process data outside Canada, including in the United States. We require providers to protect information and use it only for our purposes. We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information where the law requires it.
Buyer registrations are kept while active and for three years after the last contact. Seller engagement records and transaction files are kept for seven years after closing or termination to meet tax and professional record-keeping requirements. Server logs are kept for 90 days. You may ask us to delete your registration at any time.
Information is stored on access-controlled systems with encryption in transit. Practice profiles and financial statements are released only through controlled channels and never posted publicly. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a breach that creates a real risk of significant harm we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw consent, or ask us to delete it, by emailing info@practicesuccessioncanada.ca. We respond within 30 days. You may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your provincial commissioner if you are not satisfied with our response.
The site sets technical cookies needed for forms and caching. If analytics is enabled it uses cookies that identify your browser but not you personally. You can block cookies in your browser; forms may then not work.
